The Mater has announced, “We are having company! Time to take action!” Really now? They are only spending one night, but as PawPaw would say, ” You’d think the Pope was coming”. Well, actually they are coming down after they see the Pope in Philadelphia, but I digress. I love these peeps. They are very nice to me when we visit them, and the wife is one of Mama’s dearest childhood friends. So to date: three new commodes. We needed these anyway but the visit accelerated their installation. CHECK.. Mama is shoveling out the guest room in stages, as she is a BIG FAT PROCRASTINATOR. She says “we” are breaking it down in small pieces so as not to get overwhelmed. Yeah, sure “we”. Last week, we threw out all the little boxes Mama has been saving for several years, in the event she has to mail something to someone. CHECK. Sigh. As I pointed out many times, there was no way these boxes could be reused. That one action showed a bit of carpet, but there was no negotiation about bubble wrap. We MUST have bubble wrap, so all of that was consolidated into a bag just for that purpose, the same way we save those plastic peanuts. Okay, okay, we do actually use those materials. More carpet is showing. The dry cleaned winter comforter, and Down pieces that Mama needed during her recovery will go under our bed. CHECK. That will go a long way towards clearing off the bed in that room, which our guests are sure to appreciate. Paintings. We have a gazillion paintings and other framed items that need to be hung. Many of these have been restacked in a smarter way, but after a glass of wine, Mama has started saying “Let’s hang that ____________ (you fill in the blank) painting….I have discovered JUST THE RIGHT PLACE !”. She and her friend Laura say buzzed decorating is the best. Sigh. As I have no thumbs, I can only nod my head yes or no, or, leave the room. But if I leave the room, she could fall off the ladder. As of this writing, we have hung 3 paintings, one right before I started my blog. Let’s not get into how many are left, but I’ll give her a CHECK for that effort. Last night, it was shred old papers night. Now this started again after a glass of wine and was a very good thing to do. CHECK. So as you can tell, we are making progress. Mama has shifted the once a month lady who cleans the house to the day before their arrival….Aunt Becky thinks this is all very amusing.., but she kindly agreed to switch out dates, and after all this activity, she can really get in that room and dust. What till she sees those new commodes ! CHECK. This Saturday I am getting groomed with my gal pals Kenzie and Darby Parks. CHECK. Draperies have been dry cleaned. CHECK. What’s left you say? Sorry, I am exhausted just from this……to be continued……..
