Why Mama has me instead of a child

Skyler New Groom Oct 28 2012

Mama went to visit family at the beach this week.  I didn’t get to go, because there were 4 wee ones from age four on down, and our thinking was that I would be safer at Summer Camp. Upon her return,  I was told about  this little snippet of conversation.

Matthew (age 4, already speaks Spanish and English…you get the picture):  Watcha’ doing?

Mama:  Playing a word game, want to help?

Matthew:  Sure!  What are all those colored squares?

Mama:  Those give you points on the word you make (gives overview of game)

Matthew:  Why don’t we make a word?

Mama:  We will….how many vowels do I have?

Matthew: 2

Mama: Good, but really I have three….two e’s and an o

Matthew:  OK…..why don’t we make a word up here? (points to top of board)

Mama:  Because the lady who I am playing with could have the letters to make another word out of my word, and then she would get a BIG score.

Matthew:  But you are already winning!

Mama:  Yep, but that could change in a heartbeat….I could be losing too.

Matthew:  I hate to lose.

Mama:  Right, cause you know what…..  looks deeply into Matthew’s eyes……. losing is for suckers!

Matthew:   YEP!  Losing is for suckers!…..What’s a sucker?

Mama:  errrrrrrrrrr,   errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  A sucker is someone who doesn’t want to win.

Matthew’s Mama:  Um, don’t you think we could have turned this into a teachable moment….you know, you can’t win all the time, it’s only a game, you can be gracious when loosing and still be a winner……

Mama:  Won’t he forget our conversation?

Matthew’s Mama:  No.

Mama:  Oh crap, I’ve scarred the kid for life………………..

We’ve learned that WOOF scores more than AROO in this game only.

Well, yeah. W = 4 points. But all strategy aside, Kismet, you are Always en pointe ( no pun intended)
