My day to get a groom, and so after a visit with Aunt Ashley in Reidsville, (Auntie Karen wasn’t able to join us cause Darby’s tums was upset), the Mater and I are driving home on 150 W…and she must have been thinking driving thoughts ( You know, la, la, la, la……. when she starts thinking…….hmmm flags, sign, sign says Nursery Open, we need succulents, we have passed a nursery, never been there, turn car around, just do it!…. Well, Bingo, after all that we are at the Nursery with the world’s largest Alpha Turkey…but I digress. ( Mama bought the basil at the Farmer’s Market in Reidsville ). We drive down a lovely driveway to this Nursery, Mama parks under a shade tree and pops the rear hatch door open for me…… and……it’s like the Twilight Zone….no one is there…..until, a young woman pops up and says…”.There’s no one here, is there? I had an appointment at 2PM, but I don’t see anyone…but just look at that turkey!” A HUGE TURKEY APPEARS ! Mama says ” Hello you handsome Turkey, you are magnificent, I adore your beautiful feathers!” Zip, zap, the Turkey (much to you know who’s disappointment) wanders off. She and the young woman wander pleasantly around, only interrupted by Mama checking on me -she sez…..”Sky Man, this is JUST LIKE ALICE IN WONDERLAND!”. The young woman and Mama look at the plants and find the succulents. The owner eventually does wander up, and asks, ” What kind of succulents?”…Mama sez…”I love them all, but I want the ones that look like human brains.” ” HMMMM, brains” mutters the owner, wandering around. “How bout these?” ” Yep, perfect, I’ll take two” says Mama. So we are planting brains, basil and flower seeds tomorrow….darn, that basil smells so good!, along with some flower seeds from sweet, Becky Bluebonnet.
